Communities Manager - Remote (East Coast)

Private Internet Access is looking for an ambitious and tech-savvy community manager to act as our brand ambassador on various social platforms, interact with our online communities, grow user engagement, and further our core mission of protecting users’ online privacy. 

As the community manager for PIA, you will research, plan, implement, and manage a community strategy that engages, informs, and provides support for our millions of users across all of our social channels and platforms. You will drive organic engagement across Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, Discord, Facebook, and others. The ideal candidate is extremely organized and detail oriented, loves connecting with people, and is passionate about digital privacy, online freedom, and helping people navigate the internet in a safe and secure way. 

You must be comfortable working in an entirely remote environment and be able to work mixed hours as you interact with our international team.


  • Represent the brand’s voice, mission, and purpose on social media platforms
  • Create and post engaging content for our online communities using text, images, videos, and other multimedia as needed 
  • Plan and implement community-driven online campaigns 
  • Create, manage, and maintain a community & social media scheduling/posting calendar
  • Manage the brand’s social media governance 
  • Coordinate approaches with marketing and PR teams to ensure accurate brand representation 
  • Work with Product, Marketing/Communications, and Customer Service teams to quickly and adequately respond to user questions, complaints, and comments 
  • Monitor, track, and optimize social media performance to grow followers and increase engagement across social media platforms



  • At least 3 years experience in community management, managing social channels in B2C social media management, customer service, PR, and/or other related fields (preferably working with large brands of over 100k followers) 
  • Expert-level knowledge of social media platforms, specifically Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Helpful to know other platforms including Discord, Twitch
  • Experience and proficiency with social media tools like Canva, Photoshop, Buffer, Hootsuite, and/or others 
  • Exceptional written communication skills
  • Experience with various online communities, message boards, forums (e.g. gaming, technology) is preferred
  • Strong desire to build and manage a community around topics of online privacy  
  • Excellent competitor research skills; an ability to understand the scope of what’s working in the industry and how we can do it better 
  • Passionate and knowledgeable in information technology, cybersecurity, and VPNs
  • Technical and programming knowledge (preferred)
